A Little About Kimmy

Dear Readers,
Hi! I'm Kimmy, the other half of the duo Nearly Normal Girls. Since Hannah told you her life story, I figured I should clue you in on mine.

I'm 21, I know you may think I look 12 but I can assure you that just because I can't see over the bar, doesn't mean I can't legally drink the alcohol behind it. I am working on my Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education at Eastern Michigan University. My dream is to someday teach kindergartners their ABCs and 123s (among other things.)

I am currently working as nanny to four kids ages (7, 5, 3 and 3 months). I love being with kids so being a nanny is a wonderful blessing. Kids are the wisest people on the planet and I enjoy being able to be around them in my everyday life.

I am in a transition phrase of life, I am in between moving home and moving out of an apartment. It's a bittersweet move, but I think it is the right choice. I am going to miss my freedom and solitude of apartment life, but I sure won't miss paying my rent every month. Living at home is free, and "free" is the only four letter word  I like.  I am one of four kids.  I have one step sister who is older than me, and a brother and sister who are younger. Being in a blended family has it's ups downs,  but its worth it. You can never have to many people to love you.

Speaking of people who love you, I currently love no one... ok that isn't entirely true.  I am 21 years old and I never been in an relationship. I usually push boys away before anything gets too serious. I used to think this was my worst flaw and now I see it as my biggest blessing. I don't want to date, to just date! I want to date someone to marry them.  It says in the bible "love is patient" and I keep that near and dear to my heart. I need to be patient. The love of my life will come along when I am ready, until then I will simply have to be "patient."

I enjoy spending my days in the company of friends and family, crafting, rhyming words, playing games (such as peanut, banana grams & scrabble), listening to good music, singing everywhere I go (and usually off key), baking, learning new skills, tie-dying, reading, dreaming about weddings, gossiping about celebrities (mostly about my favs  Prince Wills & Kate!), watching TV or movies, running, swimming, searching for vintagey-things and dancing off beat. I also really enjoy being outside and in the company of my furry friends (I have two dogs, two cats and a spanish speaking fish named allejandro).

I must admit that I have few obsessions (don't we all?), I love vintage aprons, sperry boat shoes(before they were cool!), bows, anything to do weddings(especially the royal wedding), jackie-o sunglasses,  and Taylor Swift.

I guess you could say a way to describe me is that I am not completely normal, but that I am a Nearly Normal Girl.

Radiant Road Trip Shirts

This upcoming weekend the Nearly Normal Girls are going a road trip with their bestie, Susie. The three of us will be assisting Susie's awesome sister photograph an adorable 4th of July wedding in Missouri. Needless to say, we are all thrilled and super excited to be road warriors this weekend. We were already gifted an amazing 4th of July road trip kit (thanks Anne!), but Kimmy and I felt we could take our preparation even farther. The rest is history.

GATHER
  • Printable Iron-on transfer sheets
  • Pre-washed white t-shirts
  • Jacquard iDye (we used chartreuse)
  • Rubber bands

1. Use your favorite tie-dye design and tie it off tightly with rubber bands.

2. Follow direction on iDye to turn your washing machine into a tie-dye hot tub. (Remember to stir water well before putting the shirts into it)

3. While your shirts are soaking up the color, create the iron-on designs. Don't forget that any words must be backwards to be readable on the t-shirt.
4. Cut around your t-shirt design to eliminate as much blank space as you desire. The white parts of the transfer will iron-on as clear.
5. Hold hot iron on the back-side of the transfers for 10-15 seconds and set aside to let cool.
6. Peel off the cool white backing of the transfer carefully to prevent cracking and peeling.

A Little About Hannah

Well hello there readers!

I'm Hannah, one of the Nearly Normal Girls. Kimmy and I wanted to each take some time to tell you a little about ourselves, hence the post. I hate describing myself in words like this, but I'll give it a shot.

I'm 21-years old. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in spring 2008, with a BS in Psych and minor in Business. Currently, I'm working as a receptionist, babysitting and substitute teaching. Kimmy and I both agree that kids are super amazing and being a part of a child's life is a huge gift.
Right now I'm living with my wonderful and crazy family, which may be lame for a college grad, but I consider myself smart. I love it here and turning down free room and board seems like a crazy idea. Not to mention, my family is my numero uno. My two loving parents have been married for 22 years, who have parented/are parenting seven crazy children. The youngest turning 18 years younger than I am. I love them all so much and feel utterly blessed to have a support system as strong as this.

I spend my time hanging with my family and friends, eating, crafting, knitting, crazily dancing and singing, watching endless hours of TV boxed sets and movies, listening to rad music, working out & running, listening to books on tape, thrift shopping, watching bad reality TV, tie-dying, photographing, sleeping, doodling, scheming, playing cards, taking trips and organizing everything I own over and over. Additionally, I have ridiculous obsessions with giraffes, hello kitty and Jesus(my BFF).

I live a pretty normal life, but I'm not quite with it. That's why I'm a Nearly Normal Girl :)

Talk soon,
H
